In this silkscreen on textile, Japi — the central figure from Nescio’s De Uitvreter — stands alone: quiet, contemplative, withdrawn. His posture captures Nescio’s world of simplicity and solitude, the poetry of idleness. The work echoes the stillness of the Watergraafsmeer, where Nescio wrote. A portrait of silence, yet also of freedom: Japi as the dreamer who refuses to conform.
