This silkscreen on textile is inspired by Nescio’s story De Uitvreter (1918), in which Japi — the dreamer and wanderer — embodies the yearning for freedom. Gazing over the water, detached from worldly ties, he reflects Nescio’s universe of youthful dreams and quiet melancholy. The Freeloader is an ode to stillness, to the fragile balance between longing and serenity.
